Potting on plants:- Water plants and allow to drain.  Knock out of old pot. Place in the centre of a new pot and fill around with compost. Water well.

Sowing seeds:- Fill container level. Lightly firm, water and let drain. Sow seeds evenly, cover with own depth of compost except for fine seeds. Cover container with polythene. Keep in the shade. Prick out into small pots of compost when large enough to handle.

TUB AND BASKET COMPOST

Tub and Hanging Basket Compost has essential plant foods and an extra wetting agent to make re-watering easer.  Not just for hanging baskets, it is also ideal growing media for window boxes, troughs and planters.

 

Usage tips:- Use straight from the bag and lightly firm when filling the hanging basket, tub or planter. Godwins Tub and Basket Compost contains all essential plant foods for the first 4 - 6 weeks of growth, afterwards supplementary feeding in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations will be needed. Use plants such as Fuchsias, Geraniums, trailing varieties of Ivy and Lobelia as well as summers bedding plants. After Planting, soak generously with water, then place in a sheltered sunny spot.  If possible avoid winds and North facing situations. ERICACEOUS COMPOST

Ericaceous Compost has been specifically designed with a low PH, which particularly suits Heathers, Azaleas and Rhododendrons.  Only use for plants in open ground if you have an acid soil.

 

Planting:- Add compost to the planting hole, firm and water.

Containers:- Fill container with compost, plants, top us with compost and water.

Potting:- Azaleas Rhododendrons, Pieris, Heather, Hydrangeas, Camellias, Iris and Gaultheria.

Water plants allow to drain.  Knock plant out of old pot, place plant in the centre of new pot, add compost around the edges and water .

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



 

BULB FIBRE

SIZES AVAILABLE :- 5 LITRES, 20 LITRES, 40 LITRES

 

Bulb Fibre is ideal for growing bulbs in bowls and is made from sedge peat, oyster shell and charcoal, making it excellent at moisture retention and aeration, as well as promoting growth. Made from our Bulb fibre, oyster shell and charcoal.  Peat for moisture retention and aeration, oyster shell and charcoal for healthy growth and to keep the fibre fresh.

 

Uses:- Place the bulbs in a layer of bulb fibre so that the tops are just below the rim of the bowl, making sure that the bulbs are not touching the bowl or each other.  Then fill up the bowl with fibre and firm it gently around the bulbs.  Place in a dark airy cupboard or room.  During the root growth period of 6 - 10 weeks, water as necessary to keep the bulb fibre moist.  Do not over-water.

When the shoots are 30mm or so from the tops of bulbs, bring the bowl into a shady room for three to four days until the foliage turns green.. The bowl can then be brought into full light.  To keep the blooms upright turn the bowl so that the light will be evenly distributed.  



 

ECO SUPREME PEAT FREE COMPOST

Eco Supreme is a peat free multi-purpose compost which can be used for sowing, potting and cuttings.

TOP SOIL

SIZE AVAILABLE :- 25 LITRES

 

Top Soil is made with sterilised loam and is deal for planting area's, lawns and making compost. 

 

Beds, borders, greenhouses and frames:- use straight from the bag.  Suitable for ericaceous plants such as Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Heathers.

Pots and containers:- Use straight from the bag, water well.

Sowing Lawns:- Spread Top Soil over the surface of the bare soil.  Level out bumps and hollows. Mix the seed in a bucket with a little more sod.  Spread evenly over the surface.

Making compost:- Mix Top Soil with a dressing of peat or composted bark.  Add fertilizer according to the makers instructions.  Add 1 part grit or sand to 3 parts Top Soil for increased drainage. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



 

GARDEN MANURE

SIZE AVAILABLE :- 40 LITRES

 

Garden Manure is a blend of spent mushroom compost with peat. It has many applications and benefits for the garden.  It is also pleasant and easy to use.

 

Uses:- Promotes strong healthy growth. Increases crop yields.  Bigger and better fruit, larger blooms. Puts body into light soils. Stimulates natural production of micro-organisms.  Improves water retention.  Helps drainage and soil aeration in heavy soils.  Suppresses weeds.

In Spring:- sprinkle over seed beds and along drills to get seeds off to a good start. Planting shrubs and roses - mix one part manure to one part top soil and peat in the planting hole and around the plant roots. Planting vegetables - dig a trench and cover the bottom with manure.  Fill in with 50/50 mix as before. 

In Summer:- apply around rose, shrubs and other plants, in flower borders, in the vegetable garden, around fruit trees and soft fruit bushes.

How to use for soil conditioning:-  Light sandy soils- work into soils with a fork. Heavy clay soils - fork in or add 50/75mm to the soil during digging.

Mulching - apply 50/75mm to the top soil and around trees, shrubs, roses and other garden plants.  



 

CROP BAG

SIZE AVAILABLE:- 30 LITRE APPROX

 

The Crop Bag are ready mixed with balanced plant foods for indoor or outdoor use.  No special preparation is needed.

 

Uses:- The Crop bag can be used to growing tomatoes, cucumbers, vegetable, strawberries, herbs and flowers.  

Keep the bag moist but not saturated.  Water daily in hot weather.  Start feeding six weeks after planting.



 

IRISH PEAT

Irish Moss Peat can be used as a Soil Conditioner and Mulch. As an ingredient in making your compost.  Safe storage for tubers, bulbs and corms.  For sowing seeds and as a lawn dressing.

 

Uses:- Soil conditioning - Can be used on heavy clay soils to make them easier to work and it will help to retain moisture in light soils.  Apply a 25-50mm layer of Irish Moss Peat and fork into the top 100-150mm of soil.

Seed Sowing - To prepare a fine quick germinating seed bed, Apply 12.5mm layer of Irish Moss Peat and take into the top 50-75mm of soil.

Mulching - Apply a 25/50mm layer on top of the soil in rose, shrub and herbaceous borders. Suppresses weeds and helps to retain moisture in dry weather.  Improves the colour and appearance of the beds.

Planting - To help trees, shrubs and roses to establish quickly, use a mixture of Irish Moss Peat, 1 part to 3 parts soil, in the planting hole.  For bedding and herbaceous plants use Irish Moss Peat as for soil conditioning.

Composts - Irish Moss Peat can be used as an ingredient for making your own composts for the garden, for container and hanging baskets.

Lime hating plants - Irish Moss Peat is acid and well suited for cultivation of lime-hating plants, like Rhododendrons, Azaleas and heathers.  Will also help in reducing the Alkalinity of your soil.

Lawns - Aerate the lawn in early Spring or Autumn by spiking, then brush in 0.5kg of Irish Moss Peat per square metre.  This dressing will help to maintain the colour and vigour of the grass and protect the turf from everyday wear and tear.    When seeding new lawns, use Irish Moss Peat as for seed sowing.  If laying turf use as for soil conditioning

Garden Peat is a blend of organic matter and humus, to make heavy soils easier to work and retain moisture in light soils.  Its uses include herbaceous borders and soil conditioning and it is ideal for lime-hating plants such as Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Heathers.

 

Uses:- soil conditioning and herbaceous borders, apply 25/50mm layer and fork in. Seed beds - apply 15mm layer and rake in. Planting - one part peat and three parts soil to the planting hole.  Lawns:- spike then brush or rake in 500gms per square metre. Seeding lawns -  mix peat with seeds to aid even sowing.  Turf laying - condition the soil with peat before laying turf.

 

 



SPRUCE BARK

Uses:- puts body into light sandy soils.  Simulates natural humus production by micro-organisms.  Improves soil fertility.  Suppress weeds.  Promotes strong growth.  Increases crop yield.  protects plant roots from frost.  Easy to use.  Suitable for shrubs, fruit trees, roses, vegetables, soft fruit and flowers.

Light sandy soils - work into soils with a fork

Heavy clay soils - fork in or add 50/75 mm to the soil during digging.

Mulching - apply 50/75mm to the top soil and around trees, shrubs, roses and other garden plants.

Spring sowing -  use along the drill or apply a 15mm layer and rake.

Planting - add one part conditioner to three parts soil in the planting hole.  Firm and water.

Vegetables - cover the trench bottom with conditioner and fill with a 50/50 mix.

BETAGRO ORGAINIC PLANTER

SIZE AVAILABLE:- LARGE

 

The Organic Planter provides an excellent compost which is rich in nutrients while incorporating exceptional water-retaining properties.  Ideal for a wide range of growing crops, fruit, vegetables or flowers. 

 

Uses:- Place bag on greenhouse floor or staging.  Outdoors choose a sheltered, sunny position in the garden - or on a patio, balcony or in a courtyard.  To grow tomatoes cut along dotted lines and fold flaps under.  To grow lettuce, bedding plants, cut out one large panel the whole length of the bag and fold under flaps. Add about 10 litres (2 galleons) of water evenly to compost and leave to soak in.

Plant in a heated greenhouse mid March onwards.  Plant in a cold greenhouse mid April onwards.  Plant outside mid May onwards.

Immediately after planting add 1 gallon (5 litres) of water. Keep the bag moist but not saturated.

Make 4 slits 4cm (1.5 inches) long in the bottom of one side of the bag for drainage.

Do not plant tomatoes until the first flowers are open.

Start feeding when the first fruit is set or after 5 weeks for other crops.

Watering and feeding:- Do not allow compost to dry out but avoid constantly saturated conditions.  Up to 7 litres (1.5 gallons) of water may be needed daily during hot, sunny weather with established plants.  Start feeding tomatoes once first fruit truss has set.  Feed other fruiting vegetables when first fruits start to develop.  Lettuce and bedding plants should not need feeding but if a second lettuce crop is grown in the bag, feed once plants are nicely established. Feed strawberries after first cropping, until September.  



 

BETAGRO ORGAINC MULTI-PURPOSE

A versatile growing medium in which to sow seeds, start cutting or pot on plants.  The careful blending of peats and fertilisers ensure that seed through to adult plants receive the essential nutrients for strong and healthy growth.  The special blending of the organic compost gives it the property to absorb water readily and retain it longer for good root development. 

 

Uses:-  Sowing - For very small seeds e.g. begonias, it is recommended that you use Betagro Organic Multipurpose Compost.  Follow any special instruction on the seed packet. Fill a clean seed try or container to the top, lightly firm and water, the special wetting agent will ensure quick and even absorption.  Leave to drain, sow the seeds evenly and cover them to their own depth in more organic compost.  Cover the tray or container with glass or clear polythene to retain moisture.  Keep shaded until seeds germinate. As soon as seedlings appear remove the clear cover and place the container in a good light remembering to avoid direct sunlight, water when the organic compost surface feels dry, keep moist not wet. Betagro Organic Multipurpose contains enough plant foods for at least six weeks of growth.

Cuttings, leaf and stem - Fill a tray or small container with Betagro Organic Multipurpose Compost and make holes for the cuttings with a small dibber.  Use a proprietary hormone rooting powder on the cuttings and place them in the holes.  Firm in gently and water carefully.  Place a polythene bag over the post and secure.

Planting out - When seedling show first adult leaves prick out (handling by leaves only) into small pots or trays of Betagro Organic Multipurpose Compost and place in shade for 2 days to allow seedling to settle in.

Re-potting -  Water plant and allow to drain, firmly strike base of upturned pot to release plant. Place the plant with old compost still around roots, into the centre of a pot of the next size on and fill in around the edges with Betagro Organic Multipurpose. Firm and water.

 



 

BETAGRO ORGAINC FARMYARD MANURE

Betagro Organic Farmyard Manure is a first-class all-around soil conditioner and mulch. Beneficial to a broad range of plants, it encourages vigorous growth, increased yields and bigger, more beautiful blooms.   Essentially, use the organic manure to create a nutrient-rich reservoir upon which your plants can draw on a year-round basis. Add body to light, sandy soils - increasing water retention.  Enhance aeration and drainage in heavy, clay soils.

Planting (vegetables) - Dig a trench, cover the bottom with Farmyard Manure. Fill in with a 50/50 mixture as above.

Summer - Apply around shrubs, roses and other plants, in flower borders, in the vegetable garden and around fruit trees and soft fruit bushes, and fork in slightly.

For light soils - The high organic content puts body in light sandy soils and stimulates natural humus into production by micro-organisms.

For heavy clay soils - Improves drainage and soil aeration.  Add a 2-3" layer to the soil during digging or work into the soil with a fork.

As a mulch - Apply a 2-3" layer on top of the soil.

 

 

 

 

 



 

BETAGRO ORGAINC PLANTING COMPOST

Planting Compost is a first class all round soil improver and conditioner.  it is ideal for use in either containers and posts or in the garden.  it is beneficial to a broad range of plants, it encourages vigorous growth, increased yields and bigger, more beautiful blooms.  When used in the garden it helps to create a nutrient-rich environment upon which your plants can feed.

 

Uses:- Containers and pots - ideal for use with a wide variety of container and pots including terracotta.

Potting - When using a new pot or container, put a small amount of Planting compost in the base of the container.  Sit the plant onto the compost and fill the remainder of the pot, lightly firm in and water. Potting on a plant, water the plant thoroughly and allow to drain. Firmly strike base of upturned pot to release plant.  Place the plant with old compost still around roots, into the middle of a pot the next size on and fill in around the edges with Planting Compost.  Firm in and water.  The plant will not initially require feeding because of the enriched mixture containing chicken manure pellets, however after 6 weeks the plant can be fed.

In the garden - During spring, mix well into seeds beds to get the seeds off to a goods start.  Add only about 25% to the soil and mix well in.

Planting shrubs and roses - Mix Planting compost 50/50 with top soil, put in the planting hole, around the roots of the plant and firm in well.

Planting vegetables - Dig a trench, refill in with a 50/50 mixture of Planting Compost and top soil.
